The weather outside is terrible, but a cup of hot chocolate makes it lovely.
Visit Elizabeth City for the annual Hot Cocoa Crawl Friday through January 15th. This enchanting city is pulling out the Christmas decorations and treats to transform the community into the “Hot Chocolate Capital of the World” where visitors can sip, shop and stay. More than 30 stores will offer hot cocoa beverages and desserts, as well as hot cocoa-themed events, decor and gifts.

The Dirty Snowman is hot chocolate à la mode – hot cocoa, Bailey’s Irish Cream, vodka with whipped cream, chocolate shavings and ice cream. Available at The Mills Downtown Bistro, 200 N Poindexter St., 252-621-1471, millsbistro.com.
The House of the Maker, a mocha vanilla latte stout, and the Dawn of Beginning, a vanilla latte stout with flavors of hot cocoa and coffee, are available at Ghost Harbor Brewing Company602 E. Colonial Ave., 252-599-1030, ghostharborbrewing.com.
The “Cocoa Bombe Dessert” with vanilla and chocolate ice cream, almonds and a cherry is covered in a chocolate shell. It is available from the Elizabeth City Pizza Company, 507 E. Main St, 252-787-4992, ecpizzaco.com.
Stocking fillers will be available across town, like the handmade candles scented with cake batter and chocolate in a glass tumbler from Sultry Scent Company, 606 E. That Philemon House Bed and Breakfast will present a farmer’s breakfast, chocolate tea service and a chocoholic dessert drop. Additional holiday events will take place during the Hot Cocoa Crawl such as the Holiday Celebration and Grand Illumination on Friday and the ArtWalk on the first Friday of December 2nd followed by the Illuminated Boat Parade. Plan the itinerary accordingly.

Equal parts: Baileys Irish Cream, Godiva Chocolate Liqueur, and vodka with whipped cream
Hot Cocoa (with whipped cream instead of water or milk)
Vanilla Ice Cream
Line coffee mugs with chocolate syrup and dip in chocolate shavings.
Pour in the three liqueurs in equal parts.
Add ice cream and pour in hot cocoa to taste.
Garnish with whipped cream and more grated chocolate.
